Owen, the mastermind cheesemonger behind Tŷ Caws, has a real passion for cheese; after working for years in London in the speciality foods industry, he moved home to Wales to set up his own business of selling cheese. The plan was to launch the business by trading at food markets throughout 2020, but the pandemic forced Owen to pivot the business by going online.

I started the branding process by exploring Owen's story and working on the business name. We had this idea of a 'cheese house', where people would come for all things cheese-related. As Owen is a Welsh speaker, it seemed fitting to use his native language, so we translated 'cheese house' into Welsh. Boom: 'Tŷ Caws' was born. To keep the branding as strong as his extra mature cheddar, I added subtle, celebratory nods to the brand. Look closely at the circumflex in the logo and you'll see it's actually the shape of a cheese wedge. On the Instagram posts, there's a focus on the textures and taste details of cheeses to help followers learn about them.
